Pikes Peak State College Honors Veterans with Week-Long Celebration

Press Release: November 5, 2024

Colorado Springs, CO – November 5, 2024 – Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) invites the community to join a series of events during Veterans Week, kicking off on November 7, 2024, to honor veterans and their families for their contributions and sacrifices. This week-long celebration features a variety of activities across PPSC campuses, providing multiple opportunities for reflection, education, and appreciation. With 32% of the student population at PPSC made up of military-affiliated students, PPSC is proud to honor the military community and invites public to join in the events.

A “Field of Flags” will display across all campuses from November 4-12, creating a powerful visual tribute to veterans. Each flag represents the sacrifices made by those who have served, a poignant reminder of their dedication. From November 7-12, Sitrep, PPSC’s literary arts magazine, will be available online. This special edition showcases works that honor the experiences of veterans and military families. Readers can access Sitrep at https://pikespeakparley.com/category/sitrep/. The Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame Photo Display will be available from November 7-11 at both PPSC’s Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation (1850 Cypress Semi Dr.) and PPSC’s Downtown Campuses (100 W Pikes Peak Ave.). This display celebrates the remarkable achievements of women, who are honored in the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame and serves as a powerful reminder of the invaluable contributions of women in service and leadership.

On November 7, PPSC’s Rampart Range Campus (2070 Interquest Pkwy.) will host a Veterans Day presentation series, featuring veterans who will share their personal stories and experiences. These presentations offer insight into the challenges, sacrifices, and dedication of veterans from different backgrounds, creating a space for the community to hear directly from those who served. Since November is also Native American Heritage Month, the Military and Veterans Program at PPSC is excited to include a Native veteran in the presentation lineup.

The central event of Veterans Week will take place on Veterans Day, November 11 at 11:00 AM with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Centennial Campus Veterans Memorial. Located between the Atrium and C building, this ceremony serves as a respectful and reflective tribute to all veterans, honoring their service and dedication.

Veterans Week commences on November 12 at 6:00 PM in the Centennial Theater (5676 S Academy Blvd.) with a special film screening in partnership with the Patton Veterans Project. This event will showcase films that highlight veterans' journeys and raise awareness of their experiences, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the lives of those who served.

All the Veterans Week events offer the PPSC community and the public an opportunity to pay tribute to veterans and their families, recognizing their dedication and sacrifices. Veterans Day Week at PPSC not only honors those who served but also brings the community together to learn, reflect, and show appreciation for military service.
