Instructional Services

Instructional Services at Pikes Peak State College provides leadership, support, and resources that strengthen academic programs and promote student success. Under the direction of the Vice President for Instructional Services, our team of Executive Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, and dedicated staff collaborates to foster academic excellence, support faculty and students, and deliver meaningful educational experiences that prepare learners for careers, continued education, and lifelong success.

Current Students

Pikes Peak State College is the largest institution of higher education in Southern Colorado. Serving students throughout Southern Colorado as well as across the Front Range.

Degrees and Certificates Awarded

PPSC offers Associates & Bachelor's degrees, as well as certificates, allowing our students to pursue their educational goals and start rewarding careers in our local community. We awarded over 3,200 degrees and certificates in the 24-25 academic year.

Vision Statement

In keeping with the PPSC vision, Students Succeed at PPSC, Instructional Services envisions itself as the center of teaching and learning, combining its long-standing tradition of providing quality instruction with a spirit of collaboration and innovation.

In addition to preparing students to transfer to other educational institutions, we equip students for today’s workplaces and entrepreneurial opportunities by providing technical skills and training. We also seek to guide students on the ethical use of emerging technologies.

Through the lens of continuous program improvement, student engagement, shared governance, and strategic initiatives, we are committed to graduating students who are prepared to make a positive impact in the world, become effective leaders within a diverse community, and make significant contributions that improve their lives and the lives of their families.

The Academic Divisions

Instructional Services at Pikes Peak State College is organized into academic divisions, each led by an Executive Dean who reports to the Vice President for Instructional Services. This collaborative leadership structure ensures coordinated delivery of high-quality educational programs across transfer pathways, career and technical education, and workforce development.

The Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Division encompasses programs in anthropology, art, communication, dance, English, history, journalism, music, philosophy, photography, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, theatre, and world languages—preparing students for transfer and meaningful careers.

The General Education Council (GE Council) is a statutorily created group (Colorado Revised Statute §23-1-108.5 (3)) that promotes seamless and efficient pathways for students to earn postsecondary degrees. Council members representing all two- and four-year public institutions across the state serve as advocates for the knowledge and foundational skills students develop through general education across disciplines. The Council meets regularly to address the evolving higher education landscape and fulfill its statutory responsibilities. 

The council’s statutory duties include:

  • Recommend to CCHE a system of common course numbering for GT Pathways;
  • Recommend to CCHE coursework to include in GT Pathways;
  • Recommend to CCHE statewide transfer articulation agreements; and
  • Participate in and collaborate with CDHE on Faculty-to-Faculty Conferences.

The Strategic Scheduling Committee was established as part of PPSC's strategic planning efforts to support a more student-centered approach to course scheduling. Bringing together representatives from across the college, the committee provides a collaborative forum for reviewing scheduling practices, considering student needs, and using data to inform decision-making. Its purpose is to help align scheduling processes with institutional goals for student success, retention, and completion.
