Colorado Springs, CO – September 18, 2024 – Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) introduces
its new Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Cybersecurity this semester, reinforcing
Colorado Springs' reputation as a hub for cybersecurity. As the need for cybersecurity
skyrockets in both the private and public sectors, this degree will keep pace with
the need for trained professionals both regionally and across the nation.
Colorado Springs is home to Cyber Mountain, which hosts over 125 cybersecurity-focused
companies and employs more than 3,000 professionals in the sector. As the cybersecurity
industry continues to flourish in the Pikes Peak region, PPSC's new BAS degree in
Cybersecurity offers students the unique opportunity to gain specialized knowledge
in network security, ethical hacking, and digital forensics in a way nowhere else
in the country can.
“Pikes Peak State College is the primary driver of cybersecurity work force training
in the Pikes Peak Region. From defense contractors to satellite controllers, we play
a critical role in educating students for the various types of cybersecurity careers,"
said Dr. Lance Bolton, Pikes Peak State College President. "We are confident this
new bachelor's degree will provide top-tier education and training that supports Colorado
Springs goals as a leader in the cybersecurity industry."
While associate degrees and certifications have provided a strong foundation for entry-level
roles, the sophistication and complexity of malware and phishing attacks increases.
Employers are increasingly seeking professionals with advanced expertise to combat
these offenses. The BAS program addresses this gap, preparing students for higher-level
positions that require comprehensive knowledge of cyber defense strategies.
"The BAS in Cybersecurity is crucial for meeting the growing need for highly skilled
professionals in this field," explained Mike Krakow, Program Director of PPSC's cybersecurity
program. "By offering this advanced level of education, we’re ensuring that our graduates
are well-equipped to tackle complex security issues and contribute significantly to
the protection of digital assets in both the public and private sectors."
To accomplish this, PPSC has an established partnership the National Cybersecurity
Center, housed right
here in Colorado Springs. This partnership provides students with real-work simulations,
access to cutting-edge technology, and coaching from top professionals in the industry.
The recent $300,000 state funding boost to PPSC's cybersecurity program reflects the
state's commitment to workforce development in this critical field. By launching the
BAS in Cybersecurity, PPSC is solidifying the Pikes Peak region's reputation as a
leader in cybersecurity for years to come. With each graduate from the program, the
nation becomes more capable of securing digital assets in both public and private
sectors. For more information about the Cybersecurity program at Pikes Peak State
