Pre-Nursing

Your College Advisor or you Health Science's Advisor. You advisors are full of knowledge about transfer credits, degree prerequisites, and so much more! There are three main ways to contact an advisor. First, go through your portal and access Navigate. Scroll down on the main page, and see your advisor on the right hand side. There you can email them directly. You could also email academic advising at advising@pikespeak.edu. Or you can email a Health Science's Advisor at HSAdvising@pikespeak.edu.

No. Regardless of your past degrees or military status, we do not give exceptions to prerequisites.

You must have your final grade for all your prerequisites on your transcripts that is attached to your application. Sadly, the answer is no.

Be proactive! You can take 3 co-requisite classes that are required in your first and second semester of the nursing program. You can take MAT 1120 Math for Clinical Calculations, BIO 2102 Human Anatomy & Physiology II, and BIO 2116 Pathophysiology. That way you only need to focus on your nursing classes. Already have those completed? Start on you BSN prerequisites. The Bachelor's of Science in Nursing program offers ADN students who are in good academic standing to dual enroll starting in your third semester. You can get a head start and make life simpler later.

No, it will not negatively affect your score. You will also not loose out on points on the scoring sheet as any class that was successfully completed for AP credit will be excluded. The same for the CLEP exam. When the Admissions Committee averages the prerequisites for your adjusted GPA, they will exclude the class or classes that have AP credits or successful completion of a CLEP exam. Just be sure they are on your transcripts!

Nursing Class & Program

No, not at this time. The Nursing program is a full-time job by itself. Lectures and Labs will happen Monday-Friday, sometimes running all day, sometimes for only half a day. Clinicals can happen any day of the week, they can be overnight, they can be 12 hours shifts, they can happen on weekends. Past students have worked and taken nursing classes at the same time. Some have succeeded and have graduated, others were dismissed from the program because of failing grades. You must truly know your limitations and you must have a good, solid support system of people around you to do both.

At this time, we do not offer this as an option. Our classes are strictly reserved for our PPSC nursing students.

We are unable to accept transfer nursing students at this time. Nursing students from other colleges wishing to take classes at PPSC would need to complete all requirements & prerequisites before applying to the program. Then you will need to take all nursing classes in the set nursing schedule.

After failing one nursing or co-requisite class, you have one more chance to retake the class. If you do not pass it a second time, then you'll be dismissed from the program. You cannot progress and take any other class until you successfully complete the course you previously failed.

You must talk to the Nursing Faculty Progression Coordinator. Students can take one semester off, but must return the following semester. The Nursing Faculty Progression Coordinator is a great resource to planning out the most realistic approach for you, while also being sure you attain your goal of becoming a nurse.
