PPSC is delighted to help you fill your hiring needs.

The Career Services Department at Pikes Peak State College offers assistance to PPSC students in resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and soft skills development. In addition, students, who are uncertain about career choices can meet with our trained Career Advisors to gain more clarity about their future professional options. Our staff is eager to partner with you in our joint efforts to develop a top-notch local workforce.

Most recently, we have re-established a job database that allows employers to advertise employment opportunities directly to PPSC students. The database is powered by Handshake®. We invite you to recruit our students as potential employees by posting your job positions with us. This handbook takes you through the steps to do just that.

Employer Guidelines

Employer criteria

Employers must meet the following criteria to be eligible to post positions in Handshake:

  • The organization must have actual employment opportunities available for students and/or
  • Employers must meet or exceed minimum If the position is wage + commission the wage must be equivalent or higher than minimum wage.
  • The organization must accurately describe the responsibilities, requirements, and conditions for advertised positions in all publicly, including online job postings and information sessions.
  • Employers are expected to adhere to the National Association of Colleges and employers (NACE)

Principles for Employment Professionals.

  • Employers must include job posting expiration date
  • Employers must specify a specific salary or range.
    • Depending on experience without a range is not accepted
  • The organization must have in-person and/or remote job opportunities in Colorado.

Pikes Peak State College collaborates with our employer partners who are registered on the Handshake database system. The following policies are established to determine eligibility of an employing organization or individual to utilize any employer services with Pikes Peak State College.

Eligible Employers

  • The employer must have an “employer-employee” relationship in which there are no fees associated with becoming an employee of the organization, not including professional licensure fees that may need to be covered by the employee (ex. Insurance licensing fees to sell insurance, etc.). In addition, the employer must comply with all federal, state, and local Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and

Ineligible Employers/Jobs

  • Any employer who does not meet one or more of the “Eligible Employers”
  • Employers hiring Independent Contractors, Network Marketing Organizations, and Franchise Business Opportunities. Such organizations are those that engage in one or more of the following practices:
    • Classifies employee as an independent contractor instead of employee and makes the independent contractor responsible for paying their own Social Security and Medicare taxes.
    • Sponsorship of an individual in setting up his/her own business for the purpose of selling products or services and/or recruiting others to set up their own business.
    • Requirement of an initial financial investment from individuals, with the organization itself serving as an umbrella or parent corporation. The initial investment maybe direct payment of a fixed fee, payment to attend an orientation or training session, and/or purchase of a starter kit.
    • Compensation is often or exclusively in the form of straight commission, fees from others under their sponsorship in the organization, and/or a percentage of sales generated by others.
  • The office/job location must be separate from the employer’s personal residence.
  • Location address must be included in job description.
  • Babysitting or nanny services
  • Staffing agencies
  • Gambling Industry- We are not accepting job postings of this nature.
  • Cannabis, Alcohol, and Firearm Industries - We are not accepting job postings of this nature at this time.
  • Job minimum education requirements must align with PPSC degrees.
  • Job posting must be job specific. General announcements will not be approved.

Employer Conduct

Confidentiality:

Employers are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all student and alumni information. Sharing information about a candidate with another organization is not acceptable unless the employer receives prior written consent from the candidate.

Employers and students/alumni are encouraged to request reference information from each other as needed to establish qualifications, credentials and overall fit between the employer and the applicant. All job opportunities are posted at the discretion of the PPSC Career Services Office.
