Student Veterans Organization (SVO)

Want to Connect with other Veterans?

Pikes Peak Student Veterans Organization (SVO) is dedicated to help fellow collegiate veterans in the transition from military to college life and to enrich the community with veteran sponsored and patriotic events.

We provide all veterans, military members and their families with resources, support, and advocacy needed for student success. The SVO is a chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA), a national coalition of campus veterans support groups focused specifically on improving conditions and support for student veterans.

All students are welcome to attend meetings. If you are interested in joining the SVO either as an officer or a member, please send an email to svo@pikespeak.edu.

Meet your SVO Officers

SVO President Jake Post

President - Jake Post

Education: I obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in education & human sciences in 2020. I graduated with a major in child, youth & family development and three minors in early childhood education, elementary education and behavioral psychology

As life does, things change and you have to change with them so now I am pursuing a dual major from Pikes Peak State. Specifically, an AAS in Diesel Technology & Certificate in Auto Collision technology and I will graduate in the fall semester of ‘24. I hope to start working in the collision field as soon as possible!

Favorite thing about Pikes Peak State: I enjoy being close to the mountains and usually having them in sight. I also am very thankful for the Veteran community & the Military Veteran Program (MVP). It has become my 2nd home.

When not at Pikes Peak State: I enjoy the outdoors. I am an avid skier during the season and I also like to take my quad out and ride trails during a camping session. I am a huge fan of music as well, a fan of many genres. I am a gear head so I do enjoy talking about and working on cars and big trucks!

What I've learned: I think my biggest piece of advice to students current and future would be to get involved!! College is the time to expand your horizons and learn all the possible things that you can with the time that you have.

Education: My journey started at the end of May in 2022. The original pursuit was an Associates of Applied Science Degree and later decided to switch to an Associates of Arts with a concentration in Geography. I will be receiving this degree at the end of the Summer 2024 semester. I will be continuing education starting this fall at CSU-Pueblo.

Favorite thing about Pikes Peak State: The students as well as the staff and how different everyone is. This is one of the few environments where I have experienced people actively engaging in conversations without getting too heated among those with different beliefs and viewpoints on current pop culture media points.

When not at Pikes Peak State: When I find the time, hitting the highways and byways are where I go. During Spring through the Fall camping and fishing are my go to escapes from the city. Other than the outdoors I enjoy spending time picking up heavy things and putting them down.

What I've learned: There are so many things I could put in this section as to how to be successful or the keys to being successful at anything you do, but I am limited and the one piece of advice I have is, “always show up and never give up.” The moment you give up on yourself is the moment you lose the war, keep showing up and putting in the effort, I promise it is going to be worth it in the end.

Education: I started at Pikes Peak State in 2022 pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Cyber-Security. I am currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with an emphasis in Cybersecurity at UCCS. I plan on continuing my education and pursuing a Master’s Degree.

Favorite thing about Pikes Peak State: The faculty. Pikes Peak State’s instructors are highly experienced in their fields and love to teach. The entire staff at PPSC are very dedicated and I have never been met with anything less than a smile.

When not at Pikes Peak State: My favorite hobbies are fishing and long distance shooting, but if the weather is nice I will find an excuse to get outside. Baseball is my favorite sport and I am a supporter of the local minor league team the Rocky Mountain Vibes.

What I've learned:
STAY ON TRACK!! I know life gets in the way, so plan ahead. Look at your syllabus early and keep track of due dates. This will allow you to react better to unforeseen obstacles.
