Student Veterans Organization (SVO)

Want to Connect with other Veterans?

Pikes Peak Student Veterans Organization (SVO) is dedicated to help fellow collegiate veterans in the transition from military to college life and to enrich the community with veteran sponsored and patriotic events.

We provide all veterans, military members and their families with resources, support, and advocacy needed for student success. The SVO is a chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA), a national coalition of campus veterans support groups focused specifically on improving conditions and support for student veterans.

All students are welcome to attend meetings. If you are interested in joining the SVO either as an officer or a member, please send an email to svo@pikespeak.edu.

Education: My journey started at the end of May in 2022. The original pursuit was an Associates of Applied Science Degree and later decided to switch to an Associates of Arts with a concentration in Geography. I will be receiving this degree at the end of the Summer 2024 semester. I will be continuing education starting this fall at CSU-Pueblo.

Favorite thing about Pikes Peak State: The students as well as the staff and how different everyone is. This is one of the few environments where I have experienced people actively engaging in conversations without getting too heated among those with different beliefs and viewpoints on current pop culture media points.

When not at Pikes Peak State: When I find the time, hitting the highways and byways are where I go. During Spring through the Fall camping and fishing are my go to escapes from the city. Other than the outdoors I enjoy spending time picking up heavy things and putting them down.

What I've learned: There are so many things I could put in this section as to how to be successful or the keys to being successful at anything you do, but I am limited and the one piece of advice I have is, “always show up and never give up.” The moment you give up on yourself is the moment you lose the war, keep showing up and putting in the effort, I promise it is going to be worth it in the end.

Education: I started at Pikes Peak State in 2023 and I am currently pursing an Associate of Applied Science in Radio & Television.

Favorite thing about Pikes Peak State: Getting to know the other students and staff at Pikes Peak. The staff are dedicated and always looking to help students, and the instructors are experienced. All of the students I've met are always fun to chat with, very motivated, and very encouraging of me and other students to succeed.

When not at Pikes Peak State: I enjoy a variety of hobbies including video games, playing TTRPGs like D&D, and Monster of the Week. I also enjoy creating spray paint art, and I go swimming a few days a week at the YMCA.

What I've learned:
Don't be afraid to ask for help! The staff and faculty at PPSC are here and willing to help, but they can't help unless they know something is wrong.
